Course Overview

This seven week course aims to introduce and advance your skills using appliqué and machine embroidery. You will experiment with techniques to produce a range of samples which you will then develop into a final piece. You will get to produce a panel/picture using the theme of your house or chosen building.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

During this seven week course, you will cover:
Introduction to appliqué

Introduction to machine embroidery

Appliqué samples using bonda web and stitch

Machine embroidery samples using a range of fabrics

Development of ideas/planning

Producing a final piece

All sessions take place in our specialist textile workshop, with a textiles specialist tutor at our St Margarets Campus

Entry Requirements

There are no assessments or exams. Your tutor will support and guide you through the course and help you develop your skills through one-to-one feedback. Your tutor will agree individual targets with you.

How you will be assessed

No previous experience is necessary, just an interest in the subject.

Course and Career progression

This course is designed to provide you with the knowledge and skills to progress onto other areas of practical crafts. You will have opportunities to progress onto more advanced courses, or you may wish to take your experience forward into designing and producing your own work at home, utilising the skills you have developed.

What Happens Next

You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.
For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short learner details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
