Advanced Vehicle Diagnostics and Management Principles Diploma Level 4 – C7619

This qualification is for candidates who are progressing from level 3 and or those that are currently employed as motor vehicle technicians that hold a level 3 and would like to develop the knowledge and skills to diagnose/repair complex vehicle faults by using advanced vehicle technology. Students will learn how to liaise with a diverse range of audiences to decide and explain the best outcome for each specific repair job. It also gives the opportunity to learn how to develop others and share best practices, alongside developing their logical thinking skills. Students completing a level 3 qualification in Vehicle Maintenance and Repair will already have some knowledge of diagnosing and fixing faults, however, higher-level advanced diagnostic skills require additional technical skills. These skills only come from higher-level fault-finding independent experience and professional discussion with master technicians plus self-learning, which this course aims to equip students with.

Year 1

As this is a level 4 Diploma in Advanced Vehicle Diagnostics and Management Principles, students must achieve 61 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 9 credits from the optional units available.

Year 1 will compromise of the following units:

Knowledge of support for job roles in the automotive work environment
Skills in supporting job roles in the automotive work environment
Knowledge of how to identify and agree motor vehicle customer service needs
Skills to identify and agree motor vehicle customer service needs
Knowledge in monitoring procedures to control risk to health and safety
Knowledge of providing technical support and advice to colleagues in motor vehicle environments
Skills in providing technical support and advice to colleagues in motor vehicle environments
Knowledge of providing diagnostic equipment and technical information system support in motor vehicle environments
Skills in providing diagnostic equipment and technical information system support in motor vehicle environments

Year 2

Moving to year 2 of this part-time course, students will undertake:

Knowledge of how to make learning possible through demonstrations and instruction
Skills in how to make learning possible through demonstrations and instruction
Knowledge of liaising with vehicle product manufacturers and suppliers on technical matters
Skills in liaising with vehicle product manufacturers and suppliers on technical matters
Knowledge in conducting diagnostic consultations with customers in motor vehicle environments

Knowledge of diagnosing motor vehicle faults where no prescribed process or format is available in motor vehicle environments

Project management

Direct entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 95% attendance at your last place of study or work. GCSEs in both English and maths at grade 4 or above are required, plus 2 further GCSEs at grade 4 including a science or technical based subject and the relevant level 3 diploma in vehicle repair and maintenance.

If you are a current Leicester College student, you must have successfully completed the level 3 Motor Vehicle Repair Maintenance Course and have GCSE English and maths at grade 4 or above, plus 2 further GCSEs at grade 4 including a science or technical based subject. A satisfactory reference will also be required.

Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who hold both English and maths Functional Skills qualifications at level 2 and significant industry experience.

Assessment takes places through the completion of a portfolio of evidence throughout the course covering the unit tasks for each topic you study. Assessments for this qualification include:
1. Unit Assignments, including knowledge questions.
2. Tracking sheets for unit skill tasks to produce a portfolio of evidence.

Additional Costs

You will be expected to supply and wear personal protective equipment (workshop uniform) when carrying out practical activities.
This includes black steel toe cap safety boots and a plain navy overall, average costing between £45 and £50.

This course is designed for individuals looking to further their careers in the automotive industry. After successfully completing this qualification, it allows students to progress into the following qualifications:
1. Automotive Leadership and Management Higher Apprenticeship Level 5
2. Automotive Engineering Foundation Degree or Automotive Technology Foundation Degree

Alternatively, you may decide to further your career journey by applying for a job as a master/senior Motor Vehicle Technician, Quality controller or workshop controller/manager.
