Expand your knowledge and skills with an advanced pattern-making course.
Working through a range of techniques aligned to industry standards, you will have the opportunity to develop your pattern cutting skills further from design concept to final pattern.
Using a standard UK size 12 block, learn how to manipulate darts, and create and add style features to a garment of your choice.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
The course covers advanced pattern making terms and equipment as well as pattern development in a style that understands the relationship between 2D patterns and 3D garments. Develop and refine your pattern cutting equipment skills correctly and utilise more advanced templates to produce patterns. You will also recognise how to take measurements correctly, draft a basic block, practice lay planning, and discover how to assemble a garment.
Entry Requirements
Interest in industry or amateur garment construction, sampling or pattern cutting.
You cannot apply for this course if you have already completed it with Leicester College
How you will be assessed
You will be introduced to techniques through group demonstrations and benefit from individual feedback. There is no formal assessment but you will be set personal targets from your tutor.

The course provides a solid grounding in understanding the basics of pattern cutting and garment construction. This course can lead to further pattern cutting and construction courses for a range of different garments or materials on part-time courses as offered throughout the year by the College.
There are a range of other short courses offered at Leicester College such as laser cutting, printmaking, ceramics, jewellery, and photography which may inspire you to continue studying on a part-time basis.
What Happens Next
Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.
For enrol and pay courses: Once you have decided to take the course, you need to fill in a short learner details form online and pay the course fee. Once you have done this, you will receive an electronic confirmation of enrolment and payment.
