Course Overview

We have intensive courses for Entry 2/3 and level 1/2. Our intensive courses are based at City Skills Centre. We have courses starting throughout the year, and they run from 9.30am to 3pm, one day a week for 11 weeks.

Functional skills are practical and applied skills in English which allow individuals to work confidently, effectively and independently at home and at work. It is a recognised qualification by colleges and employers.

Functional English ensures that individuals can use spoken and written communication skills competently and apply them to challenges within everyday life.

This course is designed for individuals who are already have strong underpinning English skills but may require development of their ability to apply those skills and techniques effectively to secure an accredited qualification.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

Functional Skills English is made up of 3 units:
– Speaking and listening
– Reading
– Writing

At Entry level you will develop and become more confident at: taking part in 1:1 conversations and group discussions; reading and writing different kinds of texts; and improving your spelling, punctuation and grammar.

To achieve the full Functional Skills qualification, a pass in all three units is required.
