Course Overview

Adobe Illustrator is the industry standard Vector Graphics software. This hobby course will introduce you to the basic fundamentals of Adobe Illustrator. Aimed at adults aged 19+ you will learn the leading vector-based graphics programme, Adobe Illustrator CC, at a beginner level. The course can support designing websites, graphics, logos, illustrations, information graphics, maps and other vector graphics-based design.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

The course will cover basic set up, interface and all the basic tools and palettes including L selections, pen tools, anchor points, paths, layers, shapes, formatting, fill and stroke and some advanced features.

You will produce a range of simple shape and logo elements, building them into compositions. You will also learn to understand the concept of anchor points and control handles as well as stroke and fill, the fundamentals of the pen tool and some advanced shape and pathfinder features.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this course but it’s advantageous if you have a keen interest in graphics and the use of vector graphics.

How you will be assessed

There are no formal assessments on the course, students can negotiate their own designs.

Course and Career progression

The course can lead to more online design courses, advanced Illustrator and potentially a part-time degree, or freelance work within design. This is an attendance-only course with no qualifications attached. It can also lead to other related graphic design programmes including Adobe Indesign and Adobe Photoshop.
On completion of this course, you may also wish to seek careers advice from one of the College’s independent career advisors.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.
