AAT is a well-respected and desired accounting qualification by employers in this industry. This course is ideal for adults aged 19 and have career aspirations to work in accounting, auditing and related areas of accounting. With a practical approach to accounting, you will gain the skills and knowledge to progress onto a level 3 course or an entry-level role in the industry.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

As part of this course, you will study receipt and payment transactions, communications, law, business administration and data processing. Covering a range of basic accounting practices and techniques, from costing and double-entry bookkeeping to computerised accounting, the AAT level 2 course is perfect for those new to working in finance or looking to expand and develop foundation knowledge and skills. The units that you will be studying on this course include principles of costing, introduction to bookkeeping, principles of bookkeeping controls and business environment.

Entry Requirements

To enrol onto this course you will need four GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above including English and maths are required for this course. You will also need to provide one reference which can be provided by your employer or previous education establishment. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance.

Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19, who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.

How you will be assessed

You will be assessed by end of unit online exams and also an overall synoptic assessment at the end of the year.

Additional Costs

You will need to apply for your AAT membership which costs approximately £100 – £120 at the start of this course in order to study AAT and take AAT exams. These costs are subject to change by AAT.

Course and Career progression

Upon successful completion of the course learners typically progress on to the AAT level 3 accountancy day release or full-time course at Leicester College. Other progression opportunities include enrolling on to a different level 3 course within the College, employment (part-time or full time) or an apprenticeship. The skills you learn on this course will be of value to you for a range of different career opportunities.

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to attend an interview if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.
