Returning to college to help achieve dream job
To help her to achieve her dream role as a medical clerk, Zeenat realised that she needed to return to further education as an adult learner.
Zeenat explains: “I really want to work as a medical clerk. Whilst at college when I was younger, I studied on a medical secretarial course and from then on, I wanted to be in the field of either secretarial or medical clerk. Having been a file retriever and also worked as a post room assistant, I think I have the skills and expertise but was missing qualifications for English and maths.”
Back to college for English and maths GCSEs
Consequently, Zeenat made the decision to return to education and is taking a maths GCSE evening class at Leicester College. She has recently completed her English GCSE and passed with a Grade C.
Zeenat continues: “I found out that Leicester College were doing adult classes in English and maths. They were convenient with the days offered and you could also study via Teams at home with your tutor and the class.
“I would recommend the adult learning courses to anyone who wishes to brush up on their maths and English as the tutors are excellent in delivering the programme.
“If I am in need of anything college or course wise, I can call them or catch a bus and talk to the reception team who are willing to help or put me through to someone who can help - they are very good like that!”
Hitting the grade target
Zeenat continues: “To work in a hospital or the wider NHS, I needed a grade C in English but I also wanted to get a Grade C in maths to help me to build up my CV.
“It was a pleasure and a surprise that I hit my target in English. It was a hard subject with a lot of brain input, but I conquered it so my hard work paid off! I loved doing the assignments and I found the exam papers were nice to do.
“I did consider going to university to study the psychology and social science access course but my next move is hopefully to improve my IT skills, as this will also help me to hopefully get a job as a medical clerk in one of the three hospitals in Leicester. To that end, I’ve enrolled on a nine-week IT course at Leicester College’s City Skills Centre to help further my career.”
