Achieving distinction and starting a rewarding career in childcare
20-year-old Tiffany Wayte has completed her Childcare and Education T Level course at Leicester College with a distinction.
Tiffany will be working at a nursery after she was offered the job following the completion of her course.
Why the Childcare and Education T Level course?
Tiffany shares: "My mum works in childcare and one day they needed extra hands on a day trip, so I helped out. I just loved it and from that moment, I knew this was what I wanted to do. It was amazing and I've never looked back.
“I chose to do a T Level because it offers a rich experience through placements, not just theory. That hands-on learning really made a difference for me.
“Someone I know personally worked at the nursery, so I started doing my placement and I absolutely love it there. It’s also an SEN establishment, so I get to do a lot of work with SEN children which is really rewarding, being able to help them.”
“Leicester College is very safe”
Tiffany continues: “One of the things I really enjoyed on the course was the practical side, working with the children and seeing how they develop from when you start with them, all the way to when you finish. Leicester College was such a great choice for me with it being so close to home. My entire experience there felt really comfortable - Leicester College is very safe.
“Towards the end of the course, I was financially struggling. Being 20, I started to pay board to help with the bills at home and with only working part-time, it was quite tough. However, I got help and support from the College. I spoke to Esther, one of the wellbeing mentors and other tutors who really helped, understood and gave me the support I needed.”
“T Levels give you a boost”
“T Levels are a good opportunity. It really helps out in gaining more experience, especially over other courses which only offer the theory side. These days for most jobs, experience is a requirement, so T Levels give you a boost,” Tiffany concludes.
