A future in Aerospace Engineering

A fascination with making things and understanding how they work inspired Nathan Wojtaszko to study a T Level in Mechanical Engineering at Leicester College.

After achieving a Distinction, Nathan is now preparing to take his passion for engineering further by studying Aerospace Engineering at the University of Leicester.

Turning an interest into practical skills

Nathan has always enjoyed making things, which naturally led him towards engineering when deciding what he wanted to study.

“I’ve always enjoyed making things and understanding how they work, so mechanical engineering really appealed to me.”

Throughout his T Level, Nathan particularly enjoyed the practical elements of the course, which allowed him to develop his skills by working directly with machinery.

“The practical side was definitely one of my favourite parts. I learnt a lot from the machine work, but the lessons were also really fun and enjoyable.”

Combining technical knowledge with hands-on learning gave Nathan the opportunity to understand how the principles he learnt in the classroom could be applied to real engineering tasks.

Experiencing engineering in the workplace

A key part of Nathan’s T Level was gaining industry experience at Abbey Park, where he worked as and alongside other maintenance engineers.

The placement gave him an insight into engineering within a professional environment and allowed him to build experience that will support his future career.

“The workplace experience was really valuable because it’s something I can now put on my CV. Having that experience should make it easier when I’m applying for jobs in the future.”

A course for curious minds

Nathan would recommend the course to students who are naturally curious about machines and how things operate.

“If you’re interested in how things work mechanically and enjoy making things, I’d definitely recommend the course.”

Taking his passion into aerospace

Nathan’s next step will be studying Aerospace Engineering at the University of Leicester.

Looking further ahead, he hopes to build a career within the aerospace industry, with particular interests in research and development and manufacturing.
