Passion for health and beauty sparks career as aesthetic practitioner
Kiran Lucia has completed both Level 2 and Level 3 Health and Beauty courses at Leicester College. Although she wasn't always an academic student, Kiran has always been hands-on and deeply interested in the beauty industry.
She was inspired by her mother, a podiatrist who owns a local clinic. Growing up, Kiran worked there on Saturdays, engaging in treatments like manicures, pedicures and massages. Her passion for the field motivated her to apply to the Health and Beauty course at Leicester College.
Why the course at Leicester College?
“Once I completed my GCSEs, I knew Leicester College was the right choice for me. I found excellent reviews online and heard positive feedback from people I knew who had previously attended the college," Kiran says.
“One of the main reasons why I chose Leicester College was because of the teachers. The support I received was outstanding, with teachers guiding me every step of the way. During the course, I needed extra help in areas like anatomy and physiology, but the teachers were always attentive and quick to respond to my emails. They went above and beyond, often taking the time to sit with me after class to ensure I fully understood the material.
“I’m incredibly glad I chose Leicester College over other options. Although I attended another college, I didn’t feel the same warmth there. In contrast, Leicester College felt different; it was more than just a school. It was a place where I could pursue something I loved, surrounded by supportive staff and wonderful peers.”
Standout moments on the course
Kiran continues: “A standout moment for me in the course was learning about non-surgical facelifts, as I had no prior experience in this area. It was incredibly enjoyable to discover something new and fascinating.
“Other treatments like massages, facials, manicures and pedicures truly captured my interest. The variety of techniques we explored made each session not only informative but also a lot of fun!”
Next steps and future aspirations
"I want to explore the laser hair removal aspect of the industry further and I recently acquired the latest machine, making us the only clinic in Leicester to offer this technology. I’m particularly motivated to help young women suffering from PCOS (Polycystic Ovary Syndrome) feel more confident. I believe this industry is both caring and rewarding, as it enables us to improve people’s lives and boost their self-esteem,” comments Kiran.
“In five years, I hope to see my mum and me opening more clinics across Leicestershire, particularly in areas like Market Harborough, which currently lacks podiatry services. My goal is to expand the industry by introducing podiatry to smaller communities.
“With a commitment to enhancing our services and staying attuned to the evolving needs of our clients, I aim to invest in innovative devices over the years to provide exceptional care and results.”
Recommending the course to others
Kiran concludes: “I would highly recommend Leicester College for its supportive teachers who ensure they are there for you from day one. Their guidance creates a comfortable learning environment where you’re able to gain valuable skills.
“The College also invited professionals to demonstrate various treatments and techniques, providing us with valuable hands-on experience. This exposure to experts in the field enhanced our learning and gave us insights into real-world practices.
“I also formed lasting friendships with classmates, making the experience even better. The combination of great teaching and a strong community makes Leicester College an excellent choice for students.”
