Born to shine on stage
Leicester College student Isla Griggs has completed the Level 2 Performing Arts course, achieving a Distinction Merit award.
Isla’s passion for the stage began at a young age, as she has been performing in youth theatre since childhood. After leaving school in Year 10 and facing some back-and-forth decisions, Isla became certain that traditional education wasn’t the right path for her. She always felt that her future lay in a different direction, beyond the conventional classroom setting.
Why the course at Leicester College?
After completing her GCSEs, Isla began exploring colleges and attending open days. "Leicester College really stood out to me during their open day. It’s a very inclusive place, and compared to other colleges, it felt much more fun and had better staff," Isla shared.
"Doing my Level 2 was an amazing experience. Although the coursework was challenging, it was made enjoyable and I felt positive throughout the entire course. The help and support at the college were always accessible and choosing this course at this college was the best decision I could have made," she added.
After completing her Level 2, Isla moved on to Level 3 in September. However, she has now chosen to switch to the College’s Musical Theatre course. This decision was influenced by her friends on the course, who suggested that it would be a better fit for her talents and interests.
Next steps and future aspirations
Isla continues: "My next steps include applying to drama schools or conservatoires, while keeping my options open to explore, enjoy and embrace different opportunities. However, one thing I’m certain of is my passion for being on stage.
“I also have backup plans, which include attending university to study Theatre and Education, with the goal of eventually becoming a drama teacher."
Recommending the course to others
"I would highly recommend this course to anyone. You'll meet people who share your passions and care about the subject just as much as you do. I've made some of my closest friends here and the teachers are incredibly supportive," Isla concludes.
