Moving from homelessness to securing a job
After finding himself homeless, 34 year-old Harley Butterfield moved into a shared house and was looking for work. He was recommended to try the Leicester City Council Neighbourhood Improvement Sector Based Work Academy Programme (SWAP) level 1 at Leicester College.
Harley says that “the course included a period of work experience at Leicester City Council, clearing a car parking area. Since successfully passing the course, I’m now proud to secure work at Leicester City Council as a Neighbourhood Improvement Operative.”
Harley was one of 8 out of 18 candidates to secure a job with Leicester City Council.
Supported to achieve his goal
Whilst at Leicester College, Harley also completed a two-week Wellbeing course, which supported him in preparing for work. Harley was referred to the programme by his Disability Work Coach.
“I feel like I’ve been on a big journey in a short space of time. I’ve had to overcome some confidence and anxiety issues so with support from the staff at Leicester College, I’ve come a long way, have moved into my own place and am looking forward to starting my new job,” Harley explains.
