T Level in Legal Services sets aspiring politician on the path to success

Benjamin Taylor is currently completing a T Level in Legal Services and aspires to pursue a future career in politics.

Application process

Benjamin explains: “I applied to several colleges to study A Levels because I wanted a less restrictive educational environment and knew that sixth form was not the right fit for me. Leicester College was one of the first places to which I applied, and at the time, I chose to pursue biomedical science and health and social care, with the aim of becoming a medical professional.

“However, as I became more involved in political spaces - such as the Leicester Young People’s Council and my secondary school’s student parliament – my career goals began to evolve, leading me to pivot towards a different field.

“As my interest in political spaces grew, I began to realise that public speaking and finding diplomatic solutions are among my strongest skills. Recognising this, I knew that I would thrive in the legal sector, where the ability to argue cases, engage in debates and articulate ideas is clearly essential.

“I went to an open day and applied on the same day. I’d missed the deadline for the BTEC, but I was still able to apply for the T Level instead.

“I’m really happy to have chosen to do a T Level. I’m grateful for the opportunity and believe that it was fate that I should get on the course.”

Next steps

“I wanted to show both myself and others that I’m capable of much more - to prove that I could push beyond what I’d done before, and that taking the leap was the right decision,” continues Benjamin.

“I’ve completed my first mock exam and plan to continue revising. I’m also deepening my understanding of the fundamentals of law and beginning to explore corporate law in more detail - and I’m really loving it.

“In the future, I plan to study law at university, ideally at De Montfort University, with the ambition of pursuing a career in corporate or family law.”

Recommending the course to others

“I would highly recommend the course to anyone who has a genuine love for law and strengths in maths and communication. It’s ideal for people who are driven, strong-willed and motivated to use their voice to make a change,” Benjamin concluded.
