Following proud tradition of training dental nurses
Anuszka Gask has always “wanted to work in healthcare” and started working at the local Glenfield Dental practice part-time and weekends whilst she was still at school.
After leaving school, she began to work full-time at the practice in a nursing trainee role, helping with treatments and care ranging from dental hygiene up to implant surgery, with both NHS and private patients.
However, to progress with her career, Anuszka needed additional qualifications including Biology and Chemistry A levels. Glenfield Dental was established over 30 years ago and has a proud tradition, dating back around 20 years, of successfully putting trainees through apprenticeships with Leicester College.
Priti Vyas, Practice Manager at Glenfield Dental added: "We have been partnering with Leicester College for over 20 years, and we have found them supportive and friendly. Their programme is well structured and students feel confident with the workload. We like that they are local and easily accessible for all."
A pathway to a career in dental nursing
Anuszka applied for the Dental Nurse (Integrated) Apprenticeship at Leicester College, which is aimed at helping students to provide chair side support to dental professionals and deliver a high level of patient care.
The course enabled Anuszka to mix up her work at the practice with regular lectures at the College to learn the theoretical side of dental nursing.
Commenting on the course, Anuszka says: “I particularly enjoyed the X-rays; I found those really interesting as well as the administration side, helping with the paperwork required during the role.
“The assessor was really helpful, always there when you needed them. I would recommend the course to people looking for a job in healthcare, in the NHS or private sector, as it helps with variety of skills building.”
Anuszka is now focused on building her experience in the dental sector and intends to apply to university to study dental surgery in the future.
