Alisha's journey into the travel and tourism industry
For 19-year-old Alisha Wade, currently studying the Extended Diploma in Travel and Tourism Level 3 (Year 2), an unforgettable family holiday to Tunisia sparked a passion that would shape her future career.
"I've always enjoyed travelling, but it was a family holiday to Tunisia when I was still at school that really inspired me," she explains. "The entertainment team made the experience so memorable and seeing the smiles they brought to families really stayed with me. I'd always wanted to work in entertainment, so studying Travel and Tourism felt like the perfect choice."
Alisha’s experience at Leicester College
After exploring her options at Leicester College's open days, Alisha found herself drawn to the Travel and Tourism course.
"I looked at both Childcare and Travel and Tourism, but the Travel and Tourism course stood out to me. It offered so many exciting opportunities and seemed like the perfect fit for me,” she continued.
"I made lots of friends here and always found the College to be a friendly, safe and comfortable place to learn. The support available made a big difference and helped me feel confident throughout my studies."
Highlights of the course
For Alisha, one of the highlights of the course was the variety of practical experiences and industry-focused learning opportunities.
She added: "We've been on lots of trips, including visits to London and Edinburgh, and even experienced a flight simulator. We took part in role-play activities where we pretended to be tour guides or airline staff, which helped bring the industry to life. There were written assignments too, but the practical activities really helped develop my confidence."
Support from Leicester College
Alisha credits her tutors for helping her succeed throughout the course.
"The teachers have been incredibly supportive. If I ever needed help, they were always there, whether it be in class or on Teams. I always felt well supported."
Alisha’s next steps
Her hard work has already paid off. Through social media, Alisha has secured a role with Lions Entertainment in Egypt.
"I applied through the company's social media channels and was successful. I've nearly finished my coursework and will be working with the company full-time. This is exactly where I want to be."
Recommending the course to others
Looking back on her experience, Alisha has no hesitation in recommending the course to future students.
"There are so many amazing opportunities available through Travel and Tourism, and the tutors are fantastic. They support you in every area and really want you to succeed.
“My advice to anyone considering studying at Leicester College would be don’t afraid to be yourself, be confident and get involved in everything. You'll meet so many lovely people and have experiences you'll never forget. Make the most of every opportunity."
