New paralegal course launched at Leicester College

Leicester College has launched a new course to help people looking to become a paralegal and those with paralegal experience who are looking to progress their career in the legal sector. The Paralegal Practice Certificate level 3 course is a part-time course for 4.5 hours per week, starting on 10 September 2021 and is a National Association of Paralegal Practice (NALP) accredited qualification for paralegals.

According to the NALP, a paralegal is ‘a person qualified through education and training to perform substantive legal work that requires knowledge of the law and procedures but who is not a qualified solicitor, barrister or chartered legal executive’.

The first year of the course will include the following units:

  • Introduction to Law for Paralegals (Mandatory module)
  • Legal Ethics and Responsibilities for Paralegals (Mandatory module)
  • Employment Practice for Paralegals
  • Consumer Rights and Remedies for Paralegals

Completion of the first year will enable students to access the second year to study for the full diploma. Upon successful completion of the level 3 Certificate, students can progress on to year 2 to complete the Diploma. Upon successful completion of the level 3 Diploma, students can progress on to level 4 and then continue on to level 7.
