Discovering Service Industries will give students in years 9 and 10 the chance to discover the breadth of opportunities to work in service industries. Workshops will be held in the following subjects:
- childcare (please note this workshop will include basic tuition on conception, labour and birth)
- hospitality and catering
- health and social care
- travel and tourism
- uniformed public services.
The event is aimed at students are likely to attain grades 9-4 in English and maths, plus three other subjects and have the desire to go on to study at university or through a higher level or degree apprenticeship.
To book, simply enter your students’ names into their workshop of choice. We can provide complementary lunch and transport. When we have your booking, we will liaise with you to arrange this. You must provide the names of students who are attending – your booking will be held for five working days and if after this you have not supplied names then your tickets will be released.
Transport can be arranged for you – free of charge – to bring your students to and from your school to the College.
Home schooled children in years 9 and 10 are also welcome to attend this event.
Timings for the day are as follows:
9:15am, arrival at Abbey Park Campus(you are welcome to be earlier, but please don’t arrive later)
9:30am, welcome talk and guest speaker
10am – 2:45pm, workshops, with 30 minutes lunch break scheduled by each area. Students in workshops at other campuses will be taken by minibus if they are at Freemen’s Park Campus, or will walk to St Margaret’s Campus and should be accompanied by at least one member of their school staff.
2:45pm, close. Transport student back to school if booked
Your students will stay in the same workshop all day, though there will be collaboration between groups.
We are also hosting two other events on 27 March for the same years of students: Girls into STEM and Creative Shed. These are also funded through NCOP so if you wish to send students to a mixture of events on the same day you can do so, but you must make bookings for each event.
