T level case study: Jake Tipper, Carpentry and Joinery

Content

T levels are new qualifications, that are equivalent to 3 A levels. Leicester College is one of the first colleges in the area to offer T levels. We caught up with Jake who is study on the carpentry and joinery programme to find out how he is finding it. Jake said:

“I am studying T level Carpentry and Joinery. I chose this course as I’ve always had a passion for building and designing things. At first, the thing about T levels that attracted me was that the grading at the end is equivalent to three A levels and it seemed to be a practical hands-on course.

“I am really enjoying this course and have done from the very start. The flexibility is great, and the amount of theory and practical is very good. The workload set is reasonable and not too difficult. I am looking forward to the different projects we will be doing and different things we will design and make.

“After finishing this course, I am planning on getting an advanced apprenticeship with the company I am doing my work placement with and then further down the line, hopefully forming my own business as a carpenter and joiner.

“I would highly recommend this course and any T level as it is a flexible and very enjoyable course, it is challenging but the quality of work that we produce is outstanding. A T level will definitely be best suited for a student who is looking to get the best qualifications possible in the area they are studying, which will guarantee them the best grades and an opportunity in a university or even just to get straight into an apprenticeship or work.”
