Who’s competing?

Leicester College has a student competing for gold in the WorldSkills UK Live competition. Bridie Kilby, a painting and decorating student.

Bridie has competed in three skills competitions and this will be her biggest one to date. Her tutor Kirk Staines, a former gold champion at WorldSkills UK himself has been coaching her in preparation for the big competition. Kirk said:

“Bridie has a natural flair when it comes to painting and decorating. I am extremely proud of her.”

In preparation for the competition, Bridie has been practising for 6 weeks with her tutor. Kirk said:

"She’s been coming in extra time, outside of work. We work with her employer Jelson limited, who allow her to come in to do her training. We’ve worked on different elements, stretching and challenging her".

Bridie is looking forward to the competition, she said:

“I am really proud of myself, however, I would not have achieved my place in the competition without the help and support of my employers Jelson Limited, my tutor Kirk and supervisor Paul.”
