How to prepare for our Virtual Open Event: our top tips

Content

If there’s anything we’ve learnt from 2020, it’s that we cannot predict the future.

Widespread changes to social events and how they work has meant we have had to build new and exciting ways to build our relationship with students.

At Leicester College we have embraced this opportunity and are working hard to bring you the highlights of our campus events, as safely as possible, without putting a stop to the fun!

Ahead of our exclusive Virtual Open Event on Saturday 28 November, we’ve put together some tips for making the most of what’s on offer and how to get the “real” experience from the comfort of your home.

Our Top Tips

1. Register for the event
Head over to our website to register for the Virtual Open Event. This will get you a limited edition goody bag AND access to our exclusive platform only available for those who sign up in advance. Expect your very own virtual campus tours, additional video content and more!

2. Build your personal itinerary
As with any virtual open event, lists are your friend! Make a note of all the courses or departments you’re interested in and when they will be covered during the event. For the extra-organised, if you’ve signed up in advance, you will receive a personal itinerary based on your interests. Make sure you check this out in advance and plan your daily timetable!

3. Prepare questions
Grab yourself a pen (and paper of course!) and get ready to start scribbling. Our Virtual Open Event is going to be jam-packed with information, from courses to campuses and will include live Q and A sessions with teams across the college. It might help to make notes on things you find out, so you can return to them at the end of the event.
As well as this, it’s a great idea to think of questions to ask our tutors in advance, avoiding those inevitable “mind-blank” moments as soon as someone says, ‘any questions?’.

For inspiration, check out some of our suggestions below:

  • What campus will I study on?
  • How many hours of classes can I expect a week?
  • Does my chosen course offer any work experience or connections with employers?
  • Will any of my teaching be available online?
  • How will I be assessed?
  • Are there other courses I can progress onto after this one?
  • What facilities do you have on campus?
  • Where can I get careers advice or other support?

4. Get cosy!
One of the perks of not leaving the house for our open event is the ability to relax however you like! Who says you have to get dressed up? Chuck on your cosiest dressing gown and slippers, get a big cup of tea and biscuits and enjoy the experience from the comfort of your own bed!
Make sure you also know where to access all the content and make bookmarks of any necessary pages for easy access. This might mean getting your equipment ready the night before, laptop, charger and plugs nearby to make sure things all go smoothly. Finally, let people know you’re going to be busy during the Virtual Open Day hours to avoid interruptions!

5. Stay connected…
An absolute fundamental of our Virtual Open Event is a good internet connection. Say goodbye to the Netflix binge or online gaming for the time being, and if need be, get cosy near your router! Checking your signal strength before you tune in should give you time to make adjustments and you could always try telling your family to do the same…

6. Take a virtual campus tour
One of the highlights of our open events is seeing our facilities and where you will study. Whilst we are unable to be on-site, we didn’t want you to miss out on this experience so we’ve filmed a complete virtual walkthrough of each campus to come as close as the real thing as possible! Seeing our campuses gives you a real taster of student life and the experience you can expect; from where to hang out or get food, to the facilities in our workspaces and the range of equipment you will have access to.

7. Don’t go hungry!
Our final and arguably most important point – don’t go hungry! We recommend stockpiling an array of healthy snacks and drinks such as fruit and energy bars to, well…crisps, biscuits, and chocolate (all in moderation!). Staying hydrated improves concentration and general wellbeing so it would also be a good idea to fill up some jugs of water or juice to save constantly getting up.

With our top tips here, you’re sure to have a great time at our Virtual Open Event.

Remember to register below to get full access to exclusive content and then you can begin your preparation. We look forward to seeing you all there!
