The Student Union is run by students for students. The ‘executive’, as they’re known, are voted into their positions by fellow learners twice yearly.

Recently an election was held, and a new president of the Student Union was appointed.

Meet Hannah Byrne – President of the Student Union

Hannah is 17 years old and is currently studying musical theatre. We asked her some questions, so you could get to know her better.

Why did you want to join the Student Union?

“I joined because I like helping people. I was the Women’s Officer last year. I wanted to contribute to be a part of the SU and challenge myself so decided to run for president.”

What are your favourite things about the SU?

“The conferences and meeting new people. I also like building relationships with the other SU members.”

What would you tell someone who is thinking about joining the SU?

“It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity which is fun and memorable, so do it if you can!”

What can we look forward to seeing from you?

“Campaign work, International Women’s Day and conference work.”

What’s one interesting fact about yourself?

“I can do a double pirouette.”

Meet Georgina Faulks – Vice President of the Student Union

Georgina is 18 years old and is currently studies uniformed public services.

Why did you join the Student Union?

“I wanted to make a change in the college and make events more intriguing, something students can relate to.”

What are you looking to achieve by being part of the SU?

“I would like to make more opportunities for students to go on trips and expeditions.”

What can we look forward to seeing from you?

“More events to promote things within the college.”

One interesting fact about yourself?

“I am a flight Sergeant within the Royal Air Force Air Cadets.”

Meet Arashdeep Johal – HE Office and HE Ambassador

Arashdeep is 25 years old and is currently studying the tourism and events management foundation degree.

What are you looking to achieve by being part of the SU?

“I’d like to increase learner engagement/enrichment activity amongst HE students.”

What’s your favourite thing about the SU?

“Networking; I like being able to meet new people, visit new places, share ideas, build relationships and have fun!”

What can we look forward to seeing from you?

“Building a sustainable bridge between HE and FE learners and supporting black history month.”

One interesting fact about yourself?

“I’m ambidextrous… mostly!”
