Finding a new career path after lockdown

Oscar Wilford developed an interest in make-up during lockdown. Thinking that might be a possible career option, beyond just a personal interest, he took to his Instagram social media feed to see what was out there.

“I saw an advert for the Leicester College Make-Up Artistry course online,” says Oscar. “It looked like a really good opportunity and I signed up straight away.

“I’d never done well with writing; I don’t particularly have an ‘academic brain’ but I love working with my hands so the more creative aspect of the course really stood out. I really like the creative aspects of hair and make-up.

“I currently work in Superdrug around make up and have worked with a professional make-up artist on a couple of weddings.

“During the course, it was great to go to a beauty event at the ExCel Centre in London where we got to meet potential employers. However, the real highlights for me are the other students and teachers. It’s such a good group of people.

“The course is ideal for people at all stages – from beginners to masters. You can get on at any level and do well.

“After completing the course, I’d love to work in TV and film, behind the scenes, in special effects.”
