Allan Singh came to the Leicester College City Skills Centre feeling worthless after searching for a job for a while.

After speaking to his work coach Allan made the decision to enhance his CV by enrolling onto the Leicester City Council Sector Based Work Academy. This programme is a partnership between Leicester College, Leicester City Council and Job centre Plus. The course covers essential employability skills such as IT Skills, interview techniques, completing application forms, health and safety, customer service. Allen gained fifteen qualifications during the programme.
Allan successfully secured employment with Leicester City Council and is currently working on the Council’s Neighbourhood Improvement Scheme.
Allan says: “I completed several short courses to bump up my CV and prepare for the world of work again. My confidence had taken a real knock after being out of employment for a while.

“The City Skills Centre helped me really gain the confidence to get back out there and attend interviews confidently. The Centre also helped me secure interviews which was something I struggled with. There was always support on hand if you needed it.

“Completing the courses and working with the City Skills Centre has helped me start a career again and given me the confidence boost to aim higher. I hope to explore more opportunities within the Leicester City Council in the future. It is really exciting.

“I would really encourage people to give this opportunity a go. Without completing the courses I would not have a job. It has changed my life!”

Allan’s life has changed dramatically: he is a completely different person to the person who came through the door on his first day. At that time he was deflated and demotivated, and felt like he was worthless. Allan has since transformed into an ambitious and confident person who now has the drive to achieve.
