Course Overview

If your first language is not English and you’re 19+, this course is available to you at the Ross Walk Centre in Belgrave. It will help you to improve your knowledge of various domestic and industrial sewing machines and garment construction techniques. The course runs termly and you can join at any point in the term.

What You'll Learn

Year 1

You will learn how to use and maintain a sewing machine. You will also learn techniques to take measurements, follow a pattern, cut fabric and stitch garments. There is also an opportunity to learn how to use an overlocking machine. You will learn about health and safety in a textiles environment.

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements. Your level of English will be assessed at the time of enrolment.

You will complete an internal course assessment.

This course is aimed at supporting you to progress to a career or further study in Textiles and Fashion. Your tutor will advise you on future courses. You will have the opportunity to study at a higher level or to take classes in a different subject. Careers Information, advice, and guidance are also available at Leicester College.

What Happens Next

Apply online via the College website. You will be contacted to come into College if required, or you will be sent a conditional offer according to the entry requirements for the course. You will then be invited in to enrol for your chosen course of study.
