If you have an interest in film and television, want to discover how to understand, plan, produce and present different moving-image products and are creative, analytical, and work effectively on your own and in a team then this is an ideal course for you. Our Diploma in Creative Media has a specific focus on TV and film production. This includes every stage of the process from idea generation to editing. The course will provide you with a comprehensive introduction to the moving-image industry. It will also give you all the skills you need to prepare for a career in this sector. If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in Maths if you haven't already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
During the course, you will learn to recognise, analyse and understand a wide range of film and television genres. Then you will produce your own moving-image products. These will include single-camera drama (short drama), music video, documentary, experimental Video and Promotional and Corporate Video. Using professional HD video cameras, audio equipment, fig-rigs, specialist lighting and post-production software Premiere Pro and After Effects, you will gain relevant industry skills. You will learn how to research, budget, plan, create, project manage and effectively work as a valuable member of a production team.
If you successfully complete year one, you can progress on to year two of the Extended Diploma level 3.
Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance. 4 GCSEs at grade 4 (C) including English is required. GCSE Media or Film studies and GCSE Maths at grade 4 (C) or above is desirable. An online film reel, social media profile or portfolio will support your application. Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications.
You will develop skills and knowledge of the production processes of film and television through a series of coursework assignments in each unit of study. These assignments may include both practical and theoretical work. You will receive formative assessments and feedback that will inform you of the grade you are working towards.
