This course is the starting point if you are looking to pursue a career in law but do not have the entry requirements to do a level 3 in law and business. Designed to give you a good understanding of the law and business environment, the course will cover topics ranging from English Legal Systems and Employment Law to Business Finance. This course will give you the initial groundwork to enable you to progress onto level 3 or into employment/apprenticeship. You will take part in activities that help you to develop your personal skills, such as building your character and confidence. This will help you to live well and move into your chosen career. If you are 16-19 years old these activities will be timetabled as will work experience and placement. You can also choose to take part in other activities.
During this one year course, you will take one mandatory unit along with five optional units. The compulsory unit is investigating a career. The optional units you will study on the course are English Legal System, Managing People, General Defences, Human Resources and Property Offences. These units are taught through classroom-based learning and support your work experience.
The course requires you to have 4 GCSEs including both English and maths at grade 3 (D) or above, a 90% attendance rate from your last place of work or study is desirable and one reference from your last place of study or work.
Assessment for the course is coursework only, across a variety of assessment methods.

You will undertake enrichment activities such as trips to the Leicester Crown and Magistrate Courts.
Apply online via the College website, or if your school uses the Positive Steps @16 (PS16) application system please apply through this and speak to your careers advisor if you are unsure. You will need details of your qualifications and employment history, a reference, and a personal statement to complete your application. Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent a conditional offer and be invited to a Welcome Event at the College to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
