Focus Arts Promotions present Why Didn’t I Get Married

Why Didn’t I Get Married, Alan Charles’ explosive new stage comedy, puts the Black church on trial. While marriage is frequently preached from the pulpit, Charles questions why singles remain overlooked. It’s not good for a man to be alone but what about the Black woman?

Through raw dialogue, powerful testimony, and moments of both tension and humour, the play challenges deep-rooted beliefs and how cultural expectations have shaped- and often limited - how individuals find acceptance within the church.

Using courtroom-style drama, this laugh out loud play asks the question many have dared to whisper but few have said aloud: Should the Black church be held accountable for the high number of unmarried Black women in its pews?
