Sue Townsend Theatre
This iconic city centre theatre used to be Phoenix Arts Centre. It was renamed Sue Townsend Theatre to honour the Leicester author’s legacy to the arts and to the city. The theatre is where Sue began her writing career, working as a writer in residence, and where she wrote her first award-winning play Womberang.
The theatre has a rich history in the performing arts with a stellar cast of leading British actors and actresses having performed at the theatre.
It is regularly used as a performance venue by local and national arts, music, theatre and dance companies.
Sue Townsend Theatre is also a teaching venue for Leicester College, and is home to our performing arts and music and sound technology teams. Our students have the opportunity to train in the incredible commercial theatre space.
