Leicester College’s Abbey Park Campus Nursery was awarded a TMIL Accreditation from Talk Matters in Leicester – the first nursery in Leicester to receive the new award.

The TMIL accreditation recognises the nursery’s work and effectiveness in promoting speech and language for all children.

Nurseries with good or outstanding by OFSTED can apply to be accredited. The TMIL accreditation is given to nurseries who demonstrate good practice in developing children’s communication and language skills.

In order to qualify, staff at Abbey Park Campus Nursery had to submit a portfolio and they were assessed by two external members on a number of standards. There were four areas for observation; positive interaction, skills and knowledge of practitioners, the communication and environment, and working with parents and families.

The benefits of having the TMIL Accreditation is that it recognises the nursery’s work and effectiveness in promoting speech and language for all children.

Sarah Hallam, Abbey Park Campus Nursery Manager said: “We’re proud to have earned the mark of quality from Leicester Talks and to be recognised for our commitment to reaching the highest professional standards,”

“This accreditation lets our users know that children in our program are getting the best care and early learning experiences possible. Gaining this award highlights our areas of strength where good practice is in place.”

David Jackson, Head of Student Services at Leicester College, said: “This is a real boost for our Abbey Park Campus Nursery and staff members. This well-deserved award recognises the hard work of our staff who actively promote good communication and language from an early age on a daily basis.”
