IELTS – International English Language Testing System

IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. It is the most popular test for those looking to migrate to Australia, Canada, New Zealand and the UK. It is globally recognised by more than 11,000 employers, universities, schools and immigration bodies including 3,400 institutions in the USA.

The test that measures the language ability of people who want to study or work in environments where English is used as a language of communication. An easy-to-use 9-band scale clearly identifies proficiency level, from non-user (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9).

IELTS is a valid and reliable measure of your ability to communicate in English for education, immigration, emigration and accreditation purposes.

Taking your IELTS test at Leicester College

We are the only IELTS Test Centre in Leicester and Leicestershire. Leicester College has partnered with IELTS from the British Council since 2013.

We also offer IELTS preparation training so we can help you right through the process.

We hold regular IELTS tests every month, offering IELTS Academic and IELTS General Training.

How do I apply?

Step 1 – Applying for your IELTS test

Apply online at British Council IELTS
Booking online is the most efficient way to reserve your IELTS test session, test date availability can also be viewed here.
Paper applications are also available from the Leicester College Information Centres at our three main campuses.

Step 2 – Paying your test fee

A payment link will be provided on your test-taker portal once you have completed the online application form. An online payment option is also available as part of the application form as you fill it out.

OR

You can pay over the phone by calling 0116 2242240 and asking for the Information Centre.

OR

If you prefer, you can pay in person at the Information Centre at any of our three city centre campuses.

You must have your IELTS reference number to hand when paying for your test fee.
The test fee for 2023 will be £190.

Step 3 – Test day ID documents

Identification documents are no longer needed to be submitted as part of your application process, however, you must bring the original ID that you used to apply with during your application on your test day.

 

Additional Notes

Once your application is complete, you will receive a confirmation email and confirmation letter detailing the information necessary for your test day.

You have 2 days, including the day you submit your online application form, to pay your test fee.

The recommendation from the British Council is passports however you can also use a valid copy of a National EU Card, Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) or an Application Registration Card (ARC). No other forms of ID can be accepted.

You must have the original ID document you used to apply with on your test day.

If the application conditions are not met in full by your deadline, you will not be able to take your test, and we cannot offer you a refund of your test fee. You must submit the payment within your allocated deadline to secure your IELTS test place.

It is your responsibility as an IELTS test-taker to ensure that your application is fully completed by the deadline.

IELTS Terms and Conditions

All IELTS terms and conditions are outlined in the documents below and provided to you during the IELTS application procedure as well. Please ensure that you have thoroughly read these documents before applying for an IELTS test.

Leicester College IELTS Test Centre Terms and Conditions

Late Arrival on the Test Day

You must arrive at the Abbey Park Campus for 07:30am. Any test-takers that are late and arrive after registration will be refused entry to the test. You will lose your whole test fee.

Incorrect ID on the Test Day

You must bring the same identification document that you applied with during your IELTS application. This must be the original ID document. Your ID document details will be detailed in your confirmation email and letter.

Alternative identification documents and photocopies will not be accepted. If you bring the incorrect ID, you will be refused entry to the test. You will lose your whole test fee.

Under 18s

If you will be under 18 years old on your IELTS test day, we must have signed parental permission before your test session. Please download and complete the consent form, emailing a photo or scan of the form to ielts@leicestercollege.ac.uk as part of your application. Names must be written in full and handwritten signatures must be provided by yourself and your parent/legal guardian. You must bring your original form on your test day.

Test Day Absence

If you are absent on the test day, you will lose your whole test fee.

If you are absent due to extenuating circumstances, such as emergency hospital admittance, you must provide a hard (paper) copy of the relevant documentation as evidence to the Leicester College IELTS Test Centre. Electronic copies will not be accepted.

We must receive your evidence within three working days of your test date for a possible refund or transfer to be considered. Any documentation submitted after this time will not be considered.

You must also complete an IELTS Refund/Transfer Form within the three working days of the deadline stated above and submit this to the Leicester College IELTS Test Centre, along with your evidence.

Special Requirements

We make every effort to cater for test-takers with a form of disability or special requirement.

To support your application for special circumstances, we will require a copy of your medical certificate. This must be dated within the last two years.

We require a minimum of six weeks’ notice to put in place any administrative arrangements, such as extra time or separate invigilation. If further provisions are required, such as modified papers, a minimum of three months’ notice must be provided.

IELTS Test Preparation

Leicester College IELTS Preparation Course

During this course, you will study exam techniques to prepare you for the IELTS test. You will also have the opportunity to complete practice papers as a class and with a tutor.

Duration: 10-11 weeks, one course per College term. Classes (subject to change): Monday and Wednesday mornings, four hours per week. Fees (subject to change): £10.00 per hour for UK/EU students, £12.50 per hour for international students. Venue: Abbey Park Campus.

British Council Road to IELTS

This is an online programme offered by the British Council to help you prepare for the IELTS test. Once your IELTS application is complete and you have received your confirmation letters from us, you can then use your unique IELTS reference number to access this programme.

Using your reference number to log on, you can access up to 30 hours of preparation materials for free.

IELTS Test Results

All IELTS test results are released 13 days after the test date.

Results can be viewed via your test taker portal. You will also receive an email notification with a link to view your IELTS scores.

Test Report Forms are sent out in the post on results day. These are posted first class. Please allow 1-2 weeks for UK delivery. All international post is posted first class. Please allow 3-6 weeks for international delivery. If any items are returned to us in the post, we will contact you immediately to inform you of this.

Please inform us in writing prior to results day if you wish to collect your results from our office. You must bring your ID document with you when collecting results.

Enquiry on Results

You can submit for a re-mark of your IELTS results within six weeks of your test date.

The fee for an Enquiry on Results is £110. One or more parts of your test can be re-marked; the fee is the same.

Results take 2-21 days to be re-marked and returned back to us at the Leicester College IELTS test centre.

To submit an Enquiry on Results, we will require the following:

Your original Test Report Form
The fee of £110
A completed Enquiry on Results form.

Additional Test Report Forms and Recognising Organisations

You will receive only one Test Report Form following your IELTS Test. Any extras required may only be sent directly to a Recognising Organisation.

As part of your IELTS application, you will have the opportunity to add any Recognising Organisations. These organisations will automatically receive a copy of your IELTS Test results. Up to five TRFs can be sent to Recognising Organisations if requested before results are released.

We advise that you check with your chosen Recognising Organisation about entry requirements before adding these to your Test taker portal application. We cannot provide information about individual entry requirements.

If you require any additional copies of your results to be sent to Recognising Organisations once you have received your IELTS Test results, you will need to complete a Request for Additional Test Report Form first.

There is also an IELTS form that will need to be completed before your results can be sent out.
