Access to Higher Education Courses

Overview

Are you an adult who aspires to go to University but doesn’t currently have the entry requirements? It is never too late to return to study and we have the perfect courses to help you get there.

Access to Higher Education Diplomas are one-year Level 3 courses which are comparable to 3 A levels and enable adults to progress to University in one year. They are designed with progression and career aims in mind, with subject content which gives you knowledge and skills in the areas you will study in HE. In addition, academic study skills are embedded within Access courses to help you with the transition to higher level study.

Most Access courses require GCSEs (grade 4 and above) in English and Maths as these are the usual entry requirements for undergraduate study, however if don’t have one of these GCSEs, it may be possible to study one alongside your Access course.

For progression to Nursing and Midwifery from our Health Professions course, you will need 5 or 6 GCSEs (including English, Maths and a Science subject) before you take your Access course. We have a full time adult GCSE course to help you achieve this, as well as part time adult evening classes in GCSE Biology, Chemistry, Psychology, English, Maths and English Literature, if you need to top up your GCSE profile.

We have Access Diplomas in:

  • Science
  • Humanities
  • Health Professions
  • Social Science
  • Engineering
  • Computing
  • Business

Further Information

Previous learners have gone on to study at many different universities, following their dreams and fulfilling their best potential. An Access course opens the door to careers such as teaching, nursing, social work and other professions which require university qualifications.

UCAS Tariff points are allocated to Access courses, in a similar way to A levels. And you can earn up to 144 points – which is the same as getting three A* at A level.
