Health and Social Care

Our health and social care courses are designed to develop your skills and knowledge in order to enter into the caring professions. We also offer distance learning options which are free if you’ve lived in England for the past three years. Full-time courses are available at levels 1, 2 and 3 – we offer everything from Progress 8 Technical Certificates for learners in year 10 or 11 and apprenticeships which allow you to work and earn a wage while gaining a professional qualification with us. It’s also possible to study for your Access course with us.

Who are Leicester College’s health and social care courses for?

We offer a range of full and part-time courses. All learners, on successful completion of a Health and Social Care course, will achieve a professional qualification that will enable them to progress into employment, higher education, or further training.

Our courses range from entry level through to level 5. The courses include modules of study in Developmental Psychology, Sociology, and Biology, developing Health Care Plans, Nutrition and Working in the Health care sector. Our level 5 course is a Foundation degree in Children, Families and Community Health. This exciting course combines both work placement and study to help develop learners’ personal and study skills.

Learners aged 16-19 will follow a study programme which will include GCSE or functional skills English and maths if you don’t already have your grade 4 (C).

Further information

Work experience will form part of your full-time course, and if you are working with vulnerable people you will need a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificate. We will arrange this for you but you will need to pay a fee of approximately £50. Some courses will involve trips or ask you to purchase coursebooks.

"I’m now a Junior Project Manager at a technology company in Central London. Leicester College helped me to see that there are qualifications aside from A-Levels which are valuable and worthwhile. I believe the knowledge I gained was helpful in my degree choice and career."
