This course is designed to offer progression from the level 2 diploma in site carpentry/Technical certificate in site carpentry. The site carpentry advanced technical diploma level 3 is for students who are interested in developing the specific technical and professional skills that will lead to meaningful employment in the construction industry. Students undertaking the site carpentry course will explore a wide range of carpentry techniques that includes constructing cut roofing, fitting doors and windows and fixing stairs with turns. You must supply safety footwear/clothing and an identified tool kit. Technical drawing equipment and stationery are also necessary.
If you are aged 16-18, you will be enrolled on a study programme, which will include retaking GCSEs or undertaking Functional Skills in English and maths if you haven’t already achieved a grade 4 or above. You will also be required to complete a work experience placement and an employability programme.
What You'll Learn
This is an Advanced Technical Diploma. Students on the site carpentry advanced technical diploma level 3 course will study theoretical aspects of the subject and apply them to practical tasks. Compulsory topics include: Principles of organising, planning and pricing construction work; constructing cut roofing; fitting doors and windows and their furnishings; fixing stairs with turns; principles of maintenance and repair; set up and use fixed and transportable machinery
Standard entry to this course requires one reference. It is desirable that you can demonstrate 90% attendance at your last place of work or study. A GCSEs in both English and maths at 4 (grade C) or above plus two other GCSEs, one of which must be a technology/design-based subject. You will need to have successfully completed an appropriate level 2 Site Carpentry programme.
Consideration will be given to all applicants over the age of 19 who do not hold formal English and maths qualifications, but must have previously successfully completed a level 2 Site Carpentry programme.
How you will be assessed
To gain this qualification, candidates must successfully achieve the following City Guilds assessments:
one externally set, externally moderated assignment (practical assessment)
one externally set, externally marked exam, sat under examination conditions
There is also an employer involvement element to this qualification that is required in order to achieve the Advanced Technical Diploma.

Students will need to purchase Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) plus an identified tool kit. Approximate combined cost of £125. Previous Leicester College students may only require a top-up tool kit at a reduced cost. You will also require stationery. There is a materials fee applicable to this course.There may be an additional examination registration fee of approximately £120.00 if applicable. Re-sits for applicable examinations are chargeable.

What Happens Next
Apply online via UCAS Progress or the College website. You will need details of your qualifications, a reference, and a personal statement to complete your application. Once your application has been successfully processed, you will be sent a conditional offer and be invited to a Welcome Event at the College to meet your tutors, learn more about your chosen course of study and tour the facilities. You will then need to confirm your acceptance of the course offered to you.
