Course Overview
This one day course is designed to help various industries, organisations and businesses in better understanding the requirements for energy conservation and efficient buildings and structures. The programme will inform and support organisations and businesses in deciding on measures and techniques in both conserving energy and improving the energy efficiency of buildings and structures.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
Over the full-day program, the topics will cover:
– Understanding energy and the laws of thermal dynamics
– Energy conservation, considerations and improvements
– Energy assessment, Energy Performance Certification (EPC)
– Monitor energy performance over time
– Material thermal performance, K, R and U- Values
– Calculate thermal performance, heat loss/gain through building fabric and ventilation
Entry Requirements
There are no entry requirements for this course, but it is designed for adults aged 19+ over who want to enhance their knowledge and skills in green practices within their organisation or business.
How you will be assessed
A short online interactive assessment will be given to check your overall understanding of the topic. The assessment will use multiple-choice questions.

The purpose of the course is to help students gain a better overall understanding of the chosen topic and be able to communicate this knowledge back to their company or organisation to improve its sustainable and environmental credentials. The course also connects to other full-time higher and further education courses at Leicester College, particularly in the construction and engineering disciplines.
