Barbers will be able to shampoo and condition hair, cut hair using barbering techniques, style and finish hair, cut facial hair into shape and provide shaving services for men. Barbers must be able to work with all hair types ranging from straight hair to very curly, wiry hair. They also need to be able to carry out consultations with clients, demonstrate the professionalism, values, behaviours, communication skills and safe working practices associated with their role and be able to work without supervision to a high level of precision, with exceptional client care skills. An apprenticeship is a job with training. You will be employed at least 30 hours a week, with 80% of your working hours in your day-to-day role, and the remaining 20% of your time engaged in training or study.
What You'll Learn
The barber Professional apprenticeship program will require you to develop your skills, knowledge and behaviours in a professional environment and achieve a series of standards to prove your competence and skill: Barbering industry practices and principles hair cutting and styling techniques for all hair types. Using specialist hair grooming materials and tools. You will develop a range of essential Barbering skills applied and refined in a real working environment.
Communication skills – including meeting and greeting, and building rapport. Specialist Barbering skills and health and safety requirements and legislation
Maths and English – Before taking their end-point assessment, apprentices must achieve level 2 English and maths (equivalent to GCSEs at grades A* to C).
– We have an extensive support package available, including college attendance to functional skills classes and an online teaching and learning platform, which guides learners from an initial and a diagnostic assessment, through to being exam ready
How you will be assessed
On-programme is the learning phase for apprentices to pick up the skills, knowledge and behaviours set in each standard. Apprentices need to complete 20% off-the-job training during the on-programme phase of their apprenticeship. You can track and monitor the 20% through our e-portfolio. On program assessment includes:
– Regular assessment (involving employer and training provider)
– Development of a portfolio demonstrating learning and development activities with their application in the workplace. – Completion of Level 2 Diploma for Barber Professionals

Course and Career progression
Apprentices will be trained within the context of your organisation, meaning apprentices contribute to business productivity while developing their own skills and upholding your organisations core values and service culture. Successful students can progress to a range of qualifications, including Barbering Advanced Level Apprenticeship. Once completed the advanced course students can progress to become a senior barber.
