Course Overview
Gas service engineers must renew their CCN1 assessment every five years to enable them to continue conforming to their gas safe registration requirements. This assessment is for gas safe registered installers who hold a current or expired (within 12 months of expiry date) CCN1 certificate and wish to renew their registration.
This is a full cost course. There is no fee remission available and you cannot apply for an advanced learner loan to pay for your fees.
What You'll Learn
Year 1
The course will cover gas legislation; tightness testing and purging; combustion; pressure and gas rates; ventilation; pipe work; controls; flues; analysers; and unsafe situations. The assessment is in two parts over two days. Theory consists of seven papers (six open book, one closed book). The practical element of the assessment is a realistic working environment in a bay overseen by a competent assessor.
Entry Requirements
You will need to be employed/self employed and demonstrate previous CCN1 certification and element certification which is either currently active or less than 12 months expired.
How you will be assessed
You will be assessed against national recognised standards in a controlled environment. You will be allocated your own assessment bay and all reading material required for your assessment. The reading material will predominantly be British Standards. These documents will support you in enabling you to reference them whilst your assessor oversees your core gas safety assessment.

Course and Career progression
Gas safe registration is the normal progression for learners completing their re-assessment programme. Other elements can also be undertaken to enable a wider range of work to be undertaken by operatives when completing these extra assessments. Liquid petroleum gas is a popular element as it neatly aligns with natural gas and increases the scope of work a engineer can offer.
