Local partnership supports leadership apprenticeships

Content

Reaching People, a consortia of local community and voluntary sector organisations is very pleased to join with the University of Leicester and Leicester College to open up leadership apprenticeship opportunities to aspiring leaders in the sector. A pilot has already taken place with the first 6 apprentices having started their training in September.

The partnership is worth between £4500 and £7000 for each apprentice from the community and voluntary sector. Organisations can access the apprenticeship levy made available by the University of Leicester, via their Leicestershire Citizens Apprenticeship Fund. Teaching is provided by Leicester College.

This opportunity is one of the first initiatives provided by Reaching People’s new Leading in Leicester and Leicestershire project.

Bhups Narsey, Specialist Apprenticeship Lead for Business at Leicester College said,
“It’s fantastic that we are involved in such a local partnership because I know how difficult it is for managers within the voluntary and community sector to access training for their own development needs.  This partnership and Apprenticeship opportunity provides a platform for that reason”

About Reaching People
Reaching People is a consortia of local VCSE (Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise) delivery organisations, bringing together and supporting partnerships is one of our strengths. Reaching People members are committed to working together to secure lasting change for their beneficiaries and for the voluntary and community sector.

About Leading in Leicester and Leicestershire
Leading in Leicester and Leicestershire is a 3-year project, and it came out of research carried out by Reaching People. The research identified that local leadership capacity issues are continuing to grow with significant gaps at trustee level, with succession planning and capacity building for managers, and in the need to support community champions at grass root levels.

Research also identified how local coordinated leadership training will have a significant role in securing and sustaining quality local Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) services working together to make lasting change in the future.

The Leading in Leicester and Leicestershire programme will provide a range of training streams and networks to enhance Leadership within the local Voluntary Community and Social Enterprise (VCSE) services.

We are also running an Aspiring Leasers programme and the 2nd cohort will start in January 2021, more information about this programme can be found on the Leading in Leicester and Leicestershire website.
