National Skills Competition finalists from Leicester College

Leicester College students, Megan Fuller and Bridie Kilby will compete to be named as the UK’s best in their field at the. The national finals will take place at WorldSkills Live 2019, the UK’s largest skills, apprenticeship and careers event at the NEC Birmingham from 21-23 November.

Megan is a second-year apprentice on Leicester College’s Health and Social Care course and hopes to become a midwife. Following her success in the national qualifiers, Megan will now compete for a top three place at WorldSkills Live 2019 to become part of the national team.

Stephanie Panter, Lead Assessor for Childcare, Health, Humanities and Sciences at Leicester College commented: “We’re all very proud of Megan and excited that she has this opportunity. She is compassionate, caring, motivated and genuinely passionate about health and social care.”

Bridie Kilby is a Painting and Decorating student will also be competing in the national finals to earn a place on the UK team after achieving first place in the qualifiers. If Bridie is successful at WorldSkills Live, she will represent the UK in the WorldSkills competition in Shanghai.

Bridie said: “This is a great opportunity and I’m excited about competing at WorldSkills Live.”

Programme Lead for Painting and Decorating at Leicester College, Kirk Staines, added: “I feel extremely proud of Bridie. She has worked so hard and continues to improve, constantly looking for ways to better her time, efficiency and skill.”

Leicester College will be at the event’s Education Zone (Hall 17) on stand H17-J13 where the team will be available to discuss what the College has to offer and students can speak to careers advisers about future pathways.

The National Skills Competitions are designed by industry experts and aim to equip apprentices and students with the world-class skills needed to help UK businesses better compete globally.
