Workshops offered to support students not currently in mainstream education

Leicester College will be running Twilight Sessions every Thursday throughout March to support students who are home schooled, not in the mainstream education system or who struggle with attending a larger college environment.

Transitioning from school to college can be a challenging step forward for many students, especially for those who study from home or who are unfamiliar with a college setting. The Twilight Sessions are aimed at helping students to develop the skills and confidence to make decisions about their education options.

The sessions are free to attend for 15/16 year olds (or equivalent to Year 10/11) and will take place from 4-5.30pm at the following campuses:

  • Thursday 5 March 2020, Week 1 at St Margaret’s Campus – welcome session including ice breaker activities
  • Thursday 12 March 2020, Week 2 at Freemen’s Park Campus – careers advice and options to consider when applying to colleges
  • Thursday 19 March 2020, Week 3 at Abbey Park Campus – health and well-being session with one of the College counsellors
  • Thursday 26 March 2020, Week 4 at St Margaret’s Campus – Leicester College and you – course offer and certificate ceremony

Places on the Twilight sessions can be booked online here

Each week, students will rotate around the three Leicester College campuses to help familiarise them with student life, develop their confidence in a larger college environment and show them the courses available at different campuses.

Upon completion of the Twilight Sessions, students will receive a certificate during an award ceremony for their commitment to these sessions.

Tina Thorpe, Vice Principal – Study Programmes and Apprenticeships, commented: “At Leicester College, we’re committed to supporting students from all walks of life to improve their confidence, job skills and education. Our Twilight Sessions are the perfect opportunity for students who are looking to move back into mainstream education to complete sessions that work on careers advice, wellbeing and course options, all available to them at Leicester College.”
