A bricklaying apprentice from Leicester College is celebrating after taking silver medal at the WorldSkills UK 2015 national final.

Charlie Madden, 20 triumphed in the regional heats of SkillBuild and secured the chance to compete against twelve other high scorers nationally at the World Skills UK Skill Show.

Charlie who is employed by M. Duffin Builders LTD said:

“I was really proud to represent Leicester College at the Skills Show 2015. It is a great feeling to win silver medal out of all the competitors.”

“I won’t stop at silver I have my sights set on the gold next year. I want to continue to learn and perfect my skill to compete again next year.”

Keith Binns, Programme Lead in Bricklaying  at Leicester College has supported Tom throughout the competitions. He said:

“I am absolutely delighted with his achievement, second place from 13 of the country’s best young bricklayers. Charlie worked really well and despite feeling the pressure, hopefully next year we can go one better and get gold!”

“Charlie was a real ambassador for the College not only in his achievement but in his overall performance, attitude and behaviour.”

WorldSkills UK Competitions inspire young people and adults to be ambitious in their pursuit of skills to the highest level and are the highlight of The Skills Show. During The Skills Show, over 700 of the UK’s most talented apprentices, employees and learners battled it out in 70 Competitions ranging from Visual Merchandise to Floristry to be named the ‘best in the UK’ in their chosen skill.
