Muhammed Khattak is completing a T Level in Motor Vehicle Engineering at Leicester College. At secondary school, his teachers suggested to Muhammed that he do a T level.
Muhammed says: “The attraction of a T level is the combination of practical with theory, the greater focus on experience in the workplace as well as exams, and the fact that it’s the equivalent to three A levels
“But I really chose this T level because I have an interest in cars and I believe that electric vehicles are the future!”
Building up core skills
Muhammed continues: “On this course, whilst working at a garage for my work experience, I was able to expand my knowledge on different types of cars as an assistant mechanic. I also serviced cars and worked as part of customer services.
“On Fridays, I would work at the garage and from Monday to Thursday I would be at college. The course was so well balanced was really helpful.
“I gained many core practical skills such as checking brakes, suspension and taking cars apart, which will help me to thrive in the industry.”
Journey through to motorsport engineer
“I would thoroughly recommend this course as it provides lots of opportunities, from apprenticeships to university.
“My aspirations for the future would be to work for Formula 1 as a motorsport engineer,” concludes Muhammed.
